Hollywood, CA -- April 29, 2004 -- The independent feature film "Engaging Peter" won First Place for long form films at the B-Mania Film Festival.
Hosted by Adelphia Cable Systems and the B-Mania Television Network, this first annual festival features action, comedy, adventure, horror, sci-fi and war movies.
Directors Kerry Bailey and Michael Williams, both in their feature directorial debut, collaborated on this project -- employing a combination of documentary and traditional film techniques to capture the performances. "Engaging Peter" stars an ensemble cast of improvisational actors and was produced entirely without a screenplay.
In addition to the first place win, filmmakers Bailey and Williams were awarded a Canon XL-1S digital video camera and will have their film broadcast on the B-Mania Television Network at least once in the coming months.
“Engaging Peter” is the story of Peter, a struggling documentary filmmaker who has resorted to shooting weddings for rent money. While shooting an engagement party, he attempts to make a connection with Jen, the beautiful sister of the bride. Getting nowhere, Jen's mysterious Grandma intercedes and casts a spell. Peter becomes trapped in a repeating circle of time, getting the chance to strike up conversations with Jen fresh each time. But Peter is reclusive and awkward when he doesn't have his camera in between himself and his subjects. Peter must relive this brief moment at the party until he gets it right and wins Jen's heart.
